Noise Measurement

Measure the noise, protect your team!

Every day, between 7% and 10% of Québec workers are exposed, in their workplace, to noise levels that are hazardous to their hearing.¹ Over time, this exposure can lead to irreversible hearing damage.

Audio Logique offers two methods of noise measurement, allowing companies to obtain a clear and accurate picture of workers' actual noise exposure, in compliance with Decree 781.2

Based on the measurement results, our audiology professionals provide tailored recommendations to make the workplace safer and better adapted.

Service Objectives:

  • Prevent occupational hearing loss;
  • Reduce the risk of accidents linked to poor sound perception;
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with CNESST;
  • Improve employee comfort and productivity.

Our Approach:

  • Preparatory meeting (30-60 minutes) with management to assess specific needs, identify positions to evaluate, and clarify objectives;
  • On-site visit to collect information from employees and supervisors while observing the work environment and noise sources;
  • Noise measurement through dosimetry (individual exposure) and sonometry (ambient measurement). The length of this step varies depending on the number of positions to analyze and the scope of the mandate;
  • Analysis and recommendations regarding at-risk positions or tasks, the selection and proper use of suitable hearing protectors, and noise reduction at the source;
  • Delivery of a comprehensive report to management, including results and proposed corrective actions.
Sonometry

Sonometry involves taking spot measurements of sound levels in a given environment. The data collected provides an assessment of noise intensity at a specific time and location and helps identify high-risk areas in the workplace. However, traditional sound mapping tends to underestimate the actual noise dose to which a worker is exposed.

Dosimetry

Unlike sonometry, dosimetry measures noise exposure over an extended period. A small device placed near the ears records the worker's actual noise exposure, based on the variety of tasks performed and movements across the workplace during a given period (generally a full work shift). Dosimetry provides precise data on real noise exposure, which is why it is required under Decree 781.
