vHIT or Video Head Impulse Test

vHIT: A Quick Test to Understand Your Dizziness!

The Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) evaluates how well the vestibular system—responsible for balance—functions by measuring the eyes’ response to small, quick head movements. This assessment helps determine whether one or more parts of the inner ear are not responding normally to motion, which may explain symptoms such as dizziness or balance issues.

Our Approach:

The test is simple, quick, and non-invasive.

• The patient wears special goggles equipped with a camera that records eye movements.
• The patient sits still and focuses on a specific point in front of them.
• The audiologist performs small, rapid head movements in different directions.
• The camera records how the eyes react to these movements.
• The data collected helps determine whether the vestibular system (which plays a key role in stabilizing vision) is functioning properly.
• The test is brief (a few minutes), non-invasive, and generally causes only mild, temporary discomfort.

If abnormal results are found, additional tests may be recommended to confirm the diagnosis and determine the appropriate treatment.
