Ear Infections: Diagnosis, Treatment and Follow-up

Ear Infections: Fast and Effective Care!

To respond quickly and effectively to this frequent condition, we are pleased to offer a new evaluation and treatment service for middle ear infections for children aged 6 months to 17 years.

This service is provided by a nurse under a collective prescription signed by an ENT physician. It offers easier access to specialized care while reducing wait times for a medical consultation. It is especially intended for parents who wish to avoid long hours in the emergency room for a problem that can often be treated quickly with the right resources.

Our Approach:

  • In-person appointment lasting 15 to 30 minutes;
  • Otoscopy (visual ear examination) and clinical questionnaires completed during the visit;
  • Tympanometry (middle ear pressure test and eardrum mobility test). This equipment allows us to clearly and objectively document data related to an ear infection;
  • Prescription of antibiotics when deemed necessary, according to established medical criteria;
  • Free follow-up phone call within 72 hours of the initial consultation if any complications or concerns arise;
  • Free in-person follow-up two weeks after the initial consultation to ensure a favorable outcome of your child's condition;
  • If the middle ear condition has not resolved two weeks after the initial visit, a 3-month follow-up will be strongly recommended. About 10% of children will still have fluid in the middle ear three months after the infection, and one-third of children will experience six or more episodes of acute otitis media before the age of 7 ¹;
  • Medical referral, if needed, to a physician or ENT specialist in case of a complex situation or one requiring more extensive follow-up.
